In 2008, Havar partnered with the Athens Area Mediation Service, the Athens City Recreation Dept., and 18 small business sponsors to develop Athens Co. Ohio's only outdoor, 18-hole miniature golf course.  The businesses contribute $500 per year and design their own hole.  Hole sponsor fees are divided by the two non-profits.  We intend that the course will provide many years of family entertainment for Athens County and fund-raised income for the non-profit lead sponsors.

Ohio Association for Nonprofit Organizations logo"It takes great dedication to undergo the certification process, "said Jennifer Williams, OANO's executive director. "We are proud to give the honor to Havar Inc. Their work shows the commitment they have to those who benefit from their programs, their contributors and to the public."

The "Standards" program was created in 1995 with grants from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. Shortly after the formation of the trial program in Maryland, Ohio was selected to participate. There are more than 600 participating agencies and organizations.

Lets Pull Together

The Hocking Valley Scenic Railway and Havar Inc. hosted the first of its kind event on August 18, 2007. Teams of twenty people picked up a rope tied to 270 TONS OF TRAIN and pulled it 12 feet in a timed competition. Havar is totally grateful to the Ohio University Hockey Team and the Federal Hocking High School Lady Lancers Volley Ball teams and dozens of other wonderful people who pulled together to make it one of the most fun and successful fund raising events for the people we serve.
